The Town of Cornelius was established in 1905 and originated as a mill and farm community. With the closing of the mills, the damming of the Catawba River in the early 1950’s, the development of I-77 and the growth of the Town as a result of its close proximity to Charlotte. Over the years Cornelius has become one of the leading areas for people to settle in the Charlotte area.
